The horrors those poor people experienced are so disturbing. Most distressing is that an enslaved woman started the fire to commit suicide in such a terrible way, choosing to painfully burn, rather than die in a more gruesome torture in the room upstairs. And equally disturbing, those survivors were paraded into a jailhouse, rather than treated with medical care. There isn't a place hot enough in hell for a person who commits these crimes. Until very recently, I knew nothing about the types of atrocities enslaved people faced, as a white person, taught history written by white people. I thank you for showing us these stories that make us weep at the injustice and cruelty. We need to know them, as painful as they are to face. Thank you.
